Clutch Prep Fall 2020 Professor Survey

In the Fall Semester of 2020, 63 college professors from 50 schools teaching 6303 students integrated Clutch Prep for Professors into their classroom to improve student engagement and learning. These professors taught a range of courses - 57% taught Chemistry, 35% Organic Chemistry, 8% Biochemistry, 8% taught Analytical Chemistry. The remaining 6% of professors were split between Biology, Microeconomics, and Physics courses.

65% of professors used our flagship textbook specific video lessons to either flip lessons or supplement the content being taught in their lectures with 67% of professors using our video homework to provide impactful feedback loops to students and reinforce content outside of the classroom.

As this was the second semester offering these products to support professors, we’re still making product iterations based on the invaluable feedback from both our professors and students. This takes the form of user interviews and surveys like the one you’ll see below. All respondents reported some degree of positive satisfaction with Clutch Prep. 53% of professors reported being very satisfied with Clutch Prep. These educators shared the sentiment that Clutch Prep not only made their lives easier but also improved student learning and course satisfaction. Product features that drove professor satisfaction included the integration between lecture concepts and Clutch Prep’s textbook specific videos as well as the quality and size of our video homework problem and tutorial database.

How well do our tools meet the needs of your classroom?

Clutch Prep’s core product offerings: Textbook-specific video lessons & video-based homework have a wide range of potential classroom applications and as a result we witnessed a wide range of use cases. These ranged from supporting flipped lessons with our textbook-specific video lessons which 41% of professors chose to do, to providing impactful feedback loops to support out-of-classroom learning with our video-based homework platform which 67% of professors used. 

Overall 82% of respondents reported that Clutch Prep met the needs of their classroom either excellently or very well. 12% of professors shared that Clutch Prep did not meet the needs of their classroom well. We’ve been able to work with these educators and have added their suggestions to our product roadmap. 

Professors who responded positively shared that Clutch Prep helped them meet their need for out of classroom student support, allowed them to facilitate flipped classrooms, and even met their needs around accessibility and student engagement.

How is the customer support you receive from Clutch Prep?

Student and professor experience is at the core of everything we do here at Clutch Prep. Professor’s who integrated any of our products into their classroom had the ongoing support of our team of curriculum consultants as well as access to our product and engineering team.

100% of responding professors either rated our customer support as excellent or great, with 88% of these responding that the level of customer support received from Clutch Prep was excellent. Professors attributed this to the team's quick response time and efficient implementation from set-up to ongoing support.

How do you predict that Clutch Prep is impacting your students' learning?

Whilst we heard a myriad of different objectives and use cases that our educators were meeting with Clutch Prep two common threads emerged: Professors are looking to improve student engagement and they’re looking for a platform that will positively impact their students' learning.

24% of respondents shared that Clutch Prep had greatly improved students’ learning while a further 47% shared that Clutch Prep had largely improved students’ learning. Overall 100% of responding professors noted a positive impact on their students’ learning.

Professors shared the sentiment that Clutch Prep was not only resourceful for their students' learning but that their students’ enjoyed the content and format. One professor even shared that one of their CHEM 1412 students was able to complete 16 weeks of course material in only 2 months with near-perfect scores in all exams with the help of Clutch Prep.

How does Clutch Prep compare to other educational resources you have used in your classroom?

Our professors rated Clutch Prep favorably compared to competitors. 82% of professors reported that Clutch Prep either performed significantly better or better than other educational resources they had used in their classroom. Most commonly, we heard our professors had been previously using ALEKS, Mastering Chemistry, or Chem 101.

Our Fall 2020 professors shared that Clutch Prep was an inexpensive, adaptive, and student-friendly alternative. We had several professors share that both themselves and their students preferred Clutch Prep over established players such as Mastering Chemistry and Aleks. One professor even shared that they had been told by their students that ALEKS was much more difficult and oftentimes left them feeling discouraged. We even had a professor who shared that they couldn’t get what Clutch Prep offers elsewhere.
